Benjamin F. Long came to Charlotte to create a fresco behind the main altar of St. Peter's Catholic Church at 507 South Tryon St. The magnificent wall inspired great admiration amoung art lovers in the city, and led to further commissions. |
| The city of Charlotte is built on granite. Therefore, the construction
on both sides of the church required dynamite to be used. All the
vibrations from dynamite and jackhammers due to the construction shook
the foundation which caused the windows to break and was responsible
for the fresco falling at St. Peter's Catholic Church. |
